2008 Scholarship

The 2008 scholarship winners:     

  • Emily Shoaf- Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine As the president of the OCPM student chapter of AAWP, Emily organized a flag football tournament to raise money for a local clinic providing care to the under served community in Cleveland. Their group held a clothing drive for donation to the City Mission and she organized volunteers for the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.

  • Christy King- California School of Podiatric Medicine As president of the CSPM student chapter of AAWP, Christy organized a forum where Bay area women in podiatry spoke to students about their practices and experiences. She organized volunteers at the Napa Valley Marathon and Cherry Blossom Festival. Christy also coordinated a self defense workshop to teach students practical self defense techniques.

  • Sarah Elder- Rosalind Franklin University, Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine As president of the Scholl College student chapter of AAWP, Sarah organized a networking event with area female podiatrists to advise and meet students. She has also been instrumental in involving her student chapter of AAWP in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer in Chicago, the RFUMS Breast Cancer Walk, and the Lake County Arthritis Walk.

  • Tara Shirley- Des Moines University, College of Podiatric Medicine As president of the student chapter of AAWP at Des Moines University, Tara scheduled guest lecturers for her club meetings. She was a member of the Faculty Forum Student Committee, acting as a liason between her fellow students and the DMU faculty, and is currently the president of the Pi Delta National Honor Society.

  • Nicole Cupp- Barry University, College of Podiatric Medicine As Vice-President of the student chapter of AAWP at Barry University, Nicole coordinated a panel of female podiatrists for a forum called “The View”. She also involved her group in many community service projects in the Miami area.
